The UnderSec project participated at the PERIVALLON final event held on November 27, 2025, at KEMEA in Athens. During the event, UnderSec consortium partner Manibus showcased the cutting-edge system capabilities for underwater security, emphasizing its role in combating environmental crimes related to underwater sabotage, illegal dumping of radioactive materials, and other maritime threats.
The presentation highlighted its modular prototype system which integrates multimodal sensors and robotic assets to provide continuous underwater surveillance, on-demand ship hull inspections, and thorough underwater port inspections. These technologies enable early detection, recognition, and classification of illicit or dangerous materials such as narcotics, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive containers. These measures are vital in safeguarding maritime infrastructure, vessels, and the marine environment from illegal acts and ensuring uninterrupted logistics and security operations.
While PERIVALLON addresses multiple forms of environmental criminal activities, UnderSec fills a crucial niche by addressing underwater threats specifically, thus complementing and enhancing the overall effectiveness of the environmental crime prevention strategy. Thus, UnderSec reinforced its contribution to the broader EU initiative.
Stakeholders attending included port authorities, coast guards, navies, and security organizations, all of whom benefit from the enhanced situational awareness and decision-support capabilities that UnderSec offers. The live demonstrations and technological discussions at this event underscored the significance of underwater security as an integral component of maritime environmental protection.
